Abstract
This research investigates academic performance of Australian scholars at universities using a newly developed model. Based on human capital theory and Moody’s sovereign credit rating model, this study proposes an academic evaluation model (AEM) that has been pilot tested utilising finance academics as part of human capital valuation. More specifically, this thesis combines research, teaching, and service performance to come up with a rating. The results reveal that: (1) most Australian finance scholars’ research, teaching, and service performance are correctly evaluated; (2) some academics’ performance are significantly higher or lower than their colleagues at the same academic level; and (3) credit rating models can be applied to the academic environment for performance measures.
