Australia is a highly urbanised nation with more than 65 per cent of its population living in the major capital cities of Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Darwin, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane and Hobart. In excess of 40 per cent of the nation's population lives in Sydney and Melbourne alone.
