Abstract
It is a challenge to achieve effective transfer of theoretical knowledge to clinical practice in medical ultrasound education, which is essentially competency based. The objective of this article is to demonstrate the use of the Revised Bloom’s taxonomy to describe development of assessments in competency-based ultrasound education. The revised Bloom’s taxonomy provides a twodimensional framework to help educators classify cognitive learning. This process is illustrated using an example of a new masters-level course in fetal echocardiography which was developed for flexible delivery online. Using the Revised Bloom’s taxonomy while designing competency-based assessments can help achieve alignment of assessments to learning objectives to improve instructive effectiveness.
