Abstract
This study examines sleep and fatigue through a work-life lens. Whilst most often thought of as issues for shift workers, this study found that insufficient sleep and fatigue were prevalent for workers on both standard and non-standard schedules, especially for those with parenting responsibilities and for those working long hours. This study highlights a potential unrecognised epidemic of sleep deprivation and fatigue in the Australian workforce, with significant implications for health and safety at work and outside of work. Implications for policy and practice related to work hours, scheduling and access to flexible working arrangements are discussed.
