This work is for string quartet and electronics. The electronics essentially generate the structure of the work each time it is performed by the creation of 8 virtual quartets that accompany the live quartet on equal footing. Making use of digital music stands that were designed and built by the composer, the live quartet is sent pre-composed score fragments via a wireless network in real-time. Using Game Theory to organise the fragments, each performance is inherently unpredictable and creates a new version of the work each time it is performed. The virtual quartets either reinforce or subvert the musical materials that are played by the live quartet, creating interesting textures and juxtapositions through reorganising the blocks of musical material both vertically and horizontally throughout the performance.
