Abstract

Prior learning assessment (PLA) is positioned by the dietetics profession as a valid practice for crediting relevant dietetic knowledge. However, dietetic practitioners struggle to accredit knowledges acquired outside official university and internship settings. The portfolio consists of three projects informed by Dorothy Smith’s methodological and theoretical approach, institutional ethnography, to investigate how the textual system in which the profession operates and is operated on, coordinates what counts as dietetic knowledge. The portfolio makes apparent the social organization of dietetic knowledge.
