Abstract
In the Philippines, it is incumbent upon all teachers to participate in their respective communities’ social, cultural, civic, political and religious activities. While studies on the identities of teachers abound in relation to their role as professionals, there is a lack of academic exploration of how teachers’ community engagements influence their identity. The purpose of this dissertation is to explore contemporary Filipino teachers’ identity through their multiple and overlapping community engagements. The central question of this research is how do teachers’ community engagements help construct a contemporary Filipino teacher’s social identity?
