Item Open Access Advanced modelling of the fatigue of butt-welded structures : a thesis / by Ninh T. Nguyen.(1996) Nguyen, Ninh T.; Dept. of Mechanical EngineeringStudies the effects of various weld geometry parameters, residual stresses and the combined axial and bending loadings on the fatigue behaviour of butt-welded steel joints. Presents ways of improving the fatigue strength. Simulates the effect of the induced surface compressive residual stresses on the welded joints (for the improvement of the fatigue life). Explains the phenomenon of large scatter band associated with fatigue tests results. Suggests a new procedure for performing and evaluating the fatigue tests.Item Open Access The automated visual inspection and grading of timber(1989) Sobey, Peter J. M.; Dept. of Mechanical EngineeringItem Open Access Design and structural modifications of vibratory systems to achieve prescribed modal spectra / Dmitri D. Sivan.(1997) Sivan, Dmitri D.; Dept. of Mechanical EngineeringThis thesis reports on problems associated with design and structural modification of vibratory systems. Several common problems encountered in practical engineering applications are described and novel strategies for solving this problems are proposed. Mathematical formulations of these problems are generated, and solution methods are developed.Item Open Access Design of dynamic cellular manufacturing systems / by Mirko M. Bajic.(2001) Bajic, Mirko M.; Dept. of Mechanical EngineeringAn analytical approach to the integrated problems of designing the dynamic cellular manufacturing systems layout concurrently with its material flow (handling) requirements, in such a manner that minimises the material handling within the system. The proposed strategy encourages the design of a dynamic layout to identify simultaneously the machine groups, economical machine distribution, and intracell and intercell layouts.Item Open Access Effect of acoustic vibration on the combustion of pulverised coal in a gas turbine type metal combustor(Adelaide,, 1952) Singh, Rajendra; Dept. of Mechanical EngineeringItem Open Access The effects of internal flow disturbances on the vibration response of and the acoustic radiation from pipes(1979) Norton, Michael Peter; Dept. of Mechanical EngineeringItem Open Access The enhanced mixing burner(1988) Nathan, Graham; Dept. of Mechanical EngineeringItem Open Access Experimental investigation on the effects of chemical heat release in the reacting turbulent plane shear layer(1981) Wallace, Allan Kenneth; Dept. of Mechanical EngineeringItem Open Access Experimental study on the effects of density, Mach number and geometry on the large scale structure in a turbulent jet and its radiated noise / by Lee Hock Seng(1983) Lee, Hock Seng; Dept. of Mechanical EngineeringItem Open Access Fluid dynamic means of varying the thrust vector from an axisymmetric nozzle / submitted by Steven Slavko Vidakovic.(1995) Vidakovic, Steven Slavko; Dept. of Mechanical EngineeringThis thesis describes a thrust vectoring nozzle (TVN) which produces a jet which may be deflected at angles in excess of 80o from the nozzle axis by fluid dynamic means, while maintaining total thrust efficiency of the order of 50%, or at 50o with an efficiency of the order of 70%. The thrust vectoring by fluid dynamic means is achieved by injecting secondary fluid at the nozzle throat and partially separating the primary jet causing it to deform.Item Open Access A fundamental study of active noise control system design / Scott D. Snyder(1991) Snyder, Scott D.; Dept. of Mechanical EngineeringItem Open Access The generation of large-scale structures by jet precession / David Scott Nobes.(1997) Nobes, David Scott; Dept. of Mechanical EngineeringItem Open Access Generic methodology for developing a non standard-specific rationalised information flow and storage system for computer-based manufacturing / by Henry C.W. Lau.(1996) Lau, Henry C. W.; Dept. of Mechanical EngineeringThis thesis analyses the development of a Generic, Non-standard Specific Information Flow System which enables computer users to select data which is to be shared in a company and store it in a common database from which it can be accessed by anyone in the company. A Generic Database Management System is developed to control the data storage and retrieval processes.Item Open Access Hydrojet ducted propulsion systems : impeller induced vibratory pressures and performance characteristics(1966) Hale, Malcolm Robert; Dept. of Mechanical EngineeringItem Open Access In situ determination of the loss factors for simple multi-modal structures / by Alain Remont(1982) Remont, Alain; Dept. of Mechanical EngineeringItem Open Access The independent quadratic optimisation algorithm for the active control of noise and vibration / Neil C. Mackenzie.(1996) Mackenzie, Neil C.; Dept. of Mechanical EngineeringThis thesis develops an alternative control strategy, for active noise and vibration control systems, that does not require identification of the cancellation path transfer function. The Independent Quadratic Optimisation algorithm, developed in this work, is meant to optimise the coefficients of the control filter independently.Item Open Access Influence of error sensor and control source configuration and type upon the performance of active noise control systems / Anthony C. Zander.(1994) Zander, Anthony Charles; Dept. of Mechanical EngineeringItem Open Access Intensity error sensing in the active control of free field sound radiation / Robert Keohler.(2001) Koehler, Robert; Dept. of Mechanical EngineeringThis thesis describes by theory and experiment, the effectiveness of an alternate error sensing strategy suitable for the control of general free field sound radiation problems, namely active intensity. In this research, active intensity error sensing has been rigorously analysed: 1. in the near and far field of the disturbance source; 2. to determine its ability to lead to global control via sound power attenuation; 3. in a real control system. The performance of active intensity error sensors were evaluated both analytically and experimentally in progressively more complex environments to identify their capabilities and limitations.Item Open Access An investigation into the characteristics of tapered and stepped land hydrostatic journal bearings(Adelaide,, 1969) Carpenter, Allan Lloyd; Dept. of Mechanical EngineeringItem Open Access An investigation into the development of laminar natural convection in heated vertical ducts(Adelaide,, 1971) Dyer, James Ross; Dept. of Mechanical Engineering
